Today, with this guide, we would like to explain the main features of the different types of hearing aids on the market today, so that you can make your choice with peace of mind.

Hearing Aid Type, In-The-Ear.

There are many models of intraocular hearing aids, which are placed in the ear and must be properly fitted to ensure optimum sound quality and comfort. It is worth noting that intraocular hearing aids are custom-made to fit the ear perfectly.

These hearing aids are suitable for almost all hearing losses. There are no external connectors or wires, making them a very discreet and personal headset.

There are 5 types of intraocular hearing aids, some are invisible in the ear canal and others have a full shell. The current smaller model is connected completely hidden inside the ear canal. The larger one is placed on the outside of the ear, with a part that goes into the ear canal to direct the sound.

In-the-ear hearing aid features

  • Much more discreet than other hearing aids.
  • Simple and easy to handle.
  • Some have telecoil and volume control and some other features.
  • They are somewhat sensitive to the sound of wind and possible damage from moisture and ear wax.

Hearing aid type, Behind-The-Ear

Behind-the-ear hearing aids are ideal for people with severe hearing loss or smaller ear canals. All the components of this hearing aid are positioned behind the ear, connected through a transparent tube to the earphone, which is placed inside the ear.

There are 3 models:

  • BTE
  • RIC/RITE
  • Open Fit

Behind-the-ear hearing aid features

  • Its battery life is longer.
  • Amplifies more than other hearing aids.
  • They are not placed deep inside the ear, which is why some people find them more comfortable.
  • Less vulnerable to earwax build-up and moisture.
  • Rechargeable batteries in some models.

Oticon hearing aids

Oticon hearing aids are also called RITE and sometimes RIC. They are much smaller in-the-ear receivers than traditional BTEs.

These hearing aids are placed behind the ear, in a very discreet way, and are connected by a thin wire with a receiver placed inside the ear canal opening for better sound quality.

They are vulnerable to wax build-up and moisture, but are less noticeable than more traditional behind-the-ear hearing aids. The receiver is interchangeable, which makes it very easy for you to go to our Hearing Centre in Alicante, Calpe and Torrevieja to change it if necessary.
